New MG S5 EV on the way!

MG has announced the all-new MG S5 EV will be available in European markets including Ireland in the second quarter. This latest model aims to redefine expectations in the electric SUV segment, blending the praised attributes of the MG4 EV with new technology, added versatility, and a premium, spacious interior. Three versions of the MG S5 EV will be available at launch: the SE Standard Range, SE Long Range, and the range-topping Trophy Long Range. Each model is designed to offer exceptional value, performance, and practicality for drivers making the switch to electric.

Built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, the MG S5 EV offers a roomy and highly adaptable interior, supported by a cutting-edge 110mm Horizontal Cell Design that allows for a lower floor and improved cabin space. It comfortably accommodates four adults with plenty of headroom and legroom, while still offering impressive boot space—453 litres as standard, expanding to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded.

Practical touches include a 60:40 split-folding rear bench, smart storage compartments throughout the cabin, a two-stage boot floor, and a powered tailgate for added convenience.

The cabin is designed for both style and functionality. A 12.8-inch HD central touchscreen acts as the main interface, supported by physical buttons for essential functions such as audio, climate control and hazard lights—responding to driver feedback for more tactile, intuitive controls. A 10.25-inch digital driver display complements the system, creating a modern and driver-focused dashboard layout.

Interior materials have been upgraded with soft-touch plastics, suede-style accents and a premium wireless charging pad. In the Trophy variant, dual-tone leather-style seats and embossed MG branding add an extra layer of sophistication. A six-sided steering wheel—first introduced in the MG4—enhances the visual appeal. Driver and passenger comfort is prioritised, with the SE and Trophy models offering multi-way adjustable seating. The Trophy also includes heated front seats, heated steering wheel, lumbar support, and privacy glass.

All MG S5 EV models are equipped with iSMART, MG’s connected vehicle system that offers remote functions via a mobile app. Features include vehicle location, locking/unlocking, climate pre-conditioning, and range and battery status updates. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes built-in apps such as YouTube, Spotify and TikTok. MG Pilot offers a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including collision avoidance, active emergency braking, lane keep assist, cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and more. Unique to this model is MG Pilot Custom, allowing drivers to personalise and store their preferred safety and assistance settings. Performance is further enhanced through MG’s collaboration with Continental, delivering superior braking performance via large discs and the latest integrated EV braking system. The MG S5 EV can stop from 100 km/h in just 35.5 metres.

Rear-wheel drive and a near 50:50 weight distribution give the MG S5 EV sharp handling and a smooth ride, aided by a five-link rear suspension setup. A compact electric motor delivers up to 170 kW of power and 350 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 6.3 seconds (SE Long Range).

Five driving modes—Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow and Custom—allow drivers to tailor performance to their preferences and conditions. An advanced Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) works with an integrated braking system to enhance energy efficiency. Two battery options are available: 49kWh for the SE Standard Range and 64kWh for SE Long Range and Trophy models. The larger battery provides up to 480 km of WLTP combined range. Rapid charging capabilities allow the 49kWh battery to go from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes, while the 64kWh unit achieves the same in just 28 minutes.

Styling cues take inspiration from the bold MG Cyberster, with a distinctive split grille, chequered flag signature lighting, and a dynamic profile with silver cladding and sleek roof rails. A rear light bar and integrated spoiler add flair, while 17-inch alloys are standard on SE models, upgraded to 18 inches on the Trophy. Six exterior colours will be available, including Black Pearl, Cosmic Silver, Arctic White, Dynamic Red, Camden Grey, and the striking Piccadilly Blue. MG's new electric SUV promises to deliver a compelling combination of style, space, technology, and driving pleasure—and is expected to be a strong contender in the fast-growing EV market in Ireland once pricing is confirmed.
