- Maximizing Output with the Kverneland U-Drill in Co. Kildare
High Speed, Efficiency, and Consistency in the Field For farmers like Thomas from Newbridge, Co. Kildare, the Kverneland 6 metre U-Drill has proven to be a crucial upgrade for tillage farming, addressing the challenges of Ireland’s unpredictable weather and the need for efficiency on large acreages. With its 6m working width and high-speed capability, the U-Drill offers a comprehensive solution for seedbed preparation, levelling, reconsolidation, and seeding, all in a single pass. “For us, the U-Drill has been a huge plus on our farm this year,” Thomas explains. “We’re very, very impressed with it, and I would probably imagine with the current weather conditions, maybe it is the drill for more farmers to get through work.” The U-Drill’s design, which supports high-speed operations between 10-18 km/h, enables Thomas to cover more ground daily, a necessity when working within narrow weather windows. Upgraded Performance with Enhanced Efficiency In recent years, Thomas’s farm faced increasing pressure to complete seeding within short timeframes due to changing weather patterns. The transition from a 4m to a 6m U-Drill brought a significant boost in productivity. “We’ve upgraded from a four-meter U-Drill to a six-meter U-Drill, and the main reason was weather,” he notes. “With the one pass, we could only get so much done, but with the U-Drill, we’re able to get a lot more work done.” A significant factor in the U-Drill’s efficiency is its modular frame concept, which provides stability even at high speeds, ensuring that seed placement remains consistent. "The speed of the U-Drill — I know we can go up as far as 18 km/h — but I’ve chosen around 13 km/h,” Thomas shares. “The seed placement for us at 13 km/h is still hitting where we need to be.” The U-Drill’s CD-coulter system provides the flexibility of two different row widths (12.5 cm and 16.7 cm), making it adaptable to various crops while maintaining consistent seed depth. Simplified Operation and Maintenance The U-Drill is designed with ease of use in mind, featuring full ISOBUS compatibility that puts the operator in control from the tractor cab. “The ease of use for the U-Drill is very simple,” Thomas explains. “You can set your sequence the way you want to go in the field, and the calibration process is very user-friendly.” Calibration can be initiated directly from the cab or the metering unit, saving valuable time by allowing the operator to switch between crops seamlessly. With its large hopper capacity of 4,350 litres, the U-Drill further supports time efficiency by reducing the need for frequent refills. “The U-Drill probably holds maybe three tons plus room for more, maybe three and a half tons, depending on the crop,” Thomas notes. The hopper can be loaded using big bags, a front loader, or a telescopic handler, making the setup process flexible for different farm setups. Precision Through Technology The U-Drill’s headland management system is a standout feature, allowing Thomas to complete headlands more quickly and accurately while minimizing waste. “A standout feature in the U-Drill is the headland management system,” he says. “It’s very user-friendly and can be used with just one touch of a button or one pull of a spool valve.” As Thomas operates the headland management system, the U-Drill lifts the discs and the coulter bar in timed sequences, which stops seed flow to avoid over-seeding at the headland. This efficiency can save up to 5% of seed annually by preventing double seeding and gaps at headlands. Another timesaving feature is the ability to adjust coulter depth, cultivation discs, and seeding rates from the cab. The flexibility allows Thomas to tailor settings on the move, “We can adjust the seeding rate on the move,” he adds, “maybe on the headlands if running low or just wanting to save seed.” This remote adjustment capability contributes to better field management, especially when facing changing field conditions throughout the day. Reliable Seed Placement in Varied Conditions Seed placement is crucial to achieving good crop emergence and the U-Drill’s unique coulter and press wheel system helps ensure consistent results. "The disc coulter we’re finding does a great job," Thomas notes. “It leaves the seed where it needs to be, even at higher speeds.” This is made possible by the U-Drill’s optimized coulter pressure, which maintains stability and uniformity across different soil types. Additionally, the U-Drill’s front and rear packers assist with soil consolidation and ensure that seed-to-soil contact is consistent. The front packer, with an 800mm diameter, helps level the soil, while the staggered rear packers allow for effective reconsolidation, making it easier to work in wet conditions when necessary. “The wide wheels on the front of the U-Drill and the staggered packers at the back are very useful, especially for working in wetter conditions,” Thomas explains. “It’s not ideal, but sometimes we just have to work in those conditions to get finished.” More than Just an Upgrade For Thomas, the Kverneland U-Drill has been more than just an upgrade — it has become a critical part of his farm’s seeding operations. Reflecting on his experience, he shares, “Based on our experience with the Kverneland tillage equipment, we would have no problem recommending the U-Drill to any other farmers. It definitely is a drill to get through work when work needs to be done.” With its combination of high-speed capability, advanced features, and user-friendly design, the U-Drill offers Irish farmers like Thomas an efficient and dependable solution to tackle seeding under tight weather constraints. - New Amazone Catros+ 03 compact disc harrows
Amazone now offer a new folding mounted disc harrow - the Catros+ 03-2, available in working widths of 4, 5, 6 and 7 m alongside the trailed TS variant with bogey chassis. Perfect for shallow and intensive soil tillage, the low pulling power requirement combined with high forward speeds of the Catros enables high work rates with low fuel consumption. The complete product range of the third generation includes working widths from 2.5 m to 12 m. Smart Frame System – comfortable, quick and precise The intelligent Smart Frame System frame concept is extremely user-friendly. Once the machine has been set up aligned parallel with the ground, the working depth is adjusted by simple rotation of the disc carrier arms. The rows of discs are rotated away from the frame for a deeper setting, or the discs are rotated towards the frame for shallower work, while the machine frame always remains parallel to the soil, meaning that the machine works at the right depth at all times. The deeper the work, the greater the distance between the frame and disc arm and the following roller. This provides optimum through-passage in the machine as a result of the higher clearance. The Smart Frame System allows the working depth to be hydraulically adjusted from the cab when needed, without compromising the results or requiring readjustments. This offers maximum user comfort, especially when working deeper for a short duration such as in tramlines or on the headland. A fixed linkage between the two rows of discs ensures a uniform working depth of the disc element. The frame is also very clearly visible with an open design, meaning that easy monitoring of the implements is guaranteed. When using the mounted machines, the top link does not have to be corrected while adjusting the working depth, and in the trailed models the working depth adjustment has no impact on its combination with any front tools. This is a distinct advantage over other machine concepts, where the working depth is changed by tilting the entire machine, so the front tools have to be re-adjusted. The Catros +03 Smart Frame System makes the task much easier and more efficient. The same applies when using following double rollers and harrows. As a result of the constant position of the frame, the rear harrow or rollers do not tilt when the working depth is changed, so pressure remains the same on both and adjustment is not necessary. Front tools for any application The Catros+ 03-2TS trailed compact disc harrow with bogey chassis is divided into 3 sections: The optional front tools, the disc element and the following roller. A knife roller or Crushboard are offered as front tools. The extremely robust knife roller with maintenance-free bearings is ideal for shredding organic matter such as rape, sunflowers, maize stubbles or catch crops, while the individual roller segments provide perfect contours. The Crushboard can be selected as an alternative if the focus is on seedbed preparation. The right disc for every requirement With a disc diameter of 510 mm, the Catros+ permits working depths from 5 cm to 14 cm and is ideal for a wide range of applications, from full-surface chitting of stubbles and seedbed preparation to medium-deep soil tillage and incorporation of organic matter and liquid manures. Depending on the main application, there is a choice between a smooth, fine-serrated or coarse-serrated disc. Also available for the new Catros+ 03, the X-Cutter disc, with a diameter of 480 mm, is for very shallow work from 2 cm to 8 cm. The wave profile guarantees full-surface movement and high mixing intensity at the same time. Simultaneous incorporation of liquid manures with the pro-Pack The simultaneous incorporation of liquid manures during application reduces nutrient loss and therefore protects the environment. For this purpose, Amazone offers the pro-Pack for the Catros+ mounted compact disc harrows in working widths of 5 m, 6 m and 7 m. A double harrow can also be used on machines with working widths of 6 and 7 m. This allows faster drying and warming of the soil. Long-lasting and maintenance free The maintenance-free face seals on the Catros disc bearings reduce maintenance requirements and ensure high durability at the same time. The individual disc suspension means that the disc bearings are always located in the shadow of the soil flow, to protect them from wear and to generate a better through-passage. In addition to this, the pre-tensioned rubber spring elements and the individual disc suspension provide optimum contour following with maintenance-free overload protection systems. Following rollers for many applications Depending on the field conditions and needs, various following rollers and harrows can be selected from the wide Amazone range. Combination with the GreenDrill seeder box for the simultaneous sowing of fine seeds and catch crops is also available as an option. Application is provided via baffle plates in front of the following roller.

- Car Warranty Lingo Explained
Another question commonly asked to our DoneDeal experts. What is a car warranty and how does it work? Well essentially it is a contract that provides coverage for repairs and replacements of specific vehicle parts due to defects or malfunctions. It offers financial protection and peace of mind to vehicle owners. Understanding the different types of warranties, their terms, and potential pitfalls can help you make an informed decision when purchasing or maintaining a vehicle. Let's break it down a little. Types of Car Warranties Manufacturer’s Warranty Also known as a factory warranty, this type of warranty is provided by the car manufacturer when you purchase a new vehicle. It typically covers defects in materials and workmanship for a set period or mileage limit, whichever comes first. Common components include: Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty : Covers most vehicle components except for wear-and-tear parts like tires and brake pads. Usually lasts 3 to 5 years or 50,000 to 100,000 kilometres. Powertrain Warranty : Covers essential powertrain components such as the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. Often lasts longer than a bumper-to-bumper warranty, typically 5 to 10 years or 100,000 to 150,000 kilometres. Corrosion Warranty : Covers damage caused by rust and corrosion for a set number of years. Extended Warranty An extended warranty, also known as a vehicle service contract, is purchased separately and begins when the manufacturer’s warranty expires. It can be offered by the car manufacturer or third-party providers. Coverage varies widely and may include: Comprehensive Plans : Similar to a bumper-to-bumper warranty, covering most major components. Powertrain Plans : Focused on covering engine, transmission, and drivetrain components. Customisation Options : Some plans allow you to choose specific components for coverage, such as air conditioning or electrical systems. Dealer or Third-Party Warranty When buying a used car from a dealership, they may offer their own warranty, which is separate from the manufacturer’s. Third-party providers also sell warranties with varying levels of coverage. These warranties could have: Limited Coverage : Some plans only cover certain parts, so reading the fine print is essential. Service Restrictions : You may be required to use specific repair shops or follow certain maintenance schedules. Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Warranty If you buy a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle, it typically comes with a warranty provided by the manufacturer. These warranties vary but often include extended coverage beyond the original factory warranty, providing additional peace of mind. Implied Warranty In Ireland, used car dealers must provide a warranty under consumer protection laws. By default, cars must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. While a specific warranty isn’t mandatory, buyers are entitled to legal protections under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980 and the Consumer Rights Act 2022. If a defect arises shortly after purchase, the dealer may be required to repair or refund. Some dealers offer additional warranties, but terms vary. Key Warranty Terms to Understand Deductibles : Some warranties require you to pay a deductible for each repair visit. Exclusions : Wear-and-tear items like brakes, tires, and wiper blades are usually not covered. Transferability : Some warranties can be transferred to a new owner if you sell the car, increasing resale value. Claim Process : Check how claims are handled, some require prior authorisation, while others reimburse you after repairs. Voiding Conditions : Failing to follow maintenance schedules, modifying the vehicle, or using unauthorised repair garages can void your warranty. What to Look Out For When Choosing a Warranty Coverage Details : Understand exactly what is and isn’t covered to avoid unexpected repair costs. Reputation of Provider : If opting for a third-party warranty, research customer reviews and company ratings. Cost vs. Benefit : Consider whether the cost of the warranty justifies the potential repair savings. Limitations and Exclusions : Read the fine print carefully to ensure you know what might not be covered. Authorised Repair Garages : Confirm whether you can choose your own repair facility or if you must use a specific network. A car warranty can be a valuable investment, but it’s essential to choose the right one based on your needs and budget. By understanding the different types of warranties, their terms, and potential red flags, you can ensure your vehicle remains protected while avoiding unnecessary expenses. As always we wish you happy browsing for your next vehicle on www.donedeal.ie
- New Citroën C4 and C4X First Drive
The new Citroën C4 and C4X have been given a mid-life refresh, showcasing the brand's commitment to modernising its lineup while maintaining affordability. Built on the well-established CMP platform, these updated models were unveiled first at the 2024 Paris Auto Show, highlighting Citroën's latest design language and today we have made the trip just outside Barcelona for a first drive opportunity. With a choice of a mild hybrid combustion engine, and fully electric powertrains, the revised C4 and C4X are ready to cater for a variety of Irish consumers preferences in this evolving automotive landscape we now find ourselves navigating! At first glance, one of the standout features of the new Citroën C4 and C4X has to be their fresh new front ends. Both now adopt Citroën's updated design language, which includes a significant change to the brand’s new oval logo, replacing the now dated looking Chevron badge. This subtle but impactful update adds a contemporary touch to the vehicles' front fascia. The bulbous headlight design of the previous models has been replaced with sleeker, more modern LED headlights that definitely look considerably smarter. The fog lights have been repositioned, while the front bumper has been reshaped to deliver a sharper, more aggressive look. Along the sides, the silhouette remains largely unchanged, but the alloy wheels feature new designs that add a touch of sophistication. While the C4 and C4X share many similarities, a noticeable difference is evident from side-profile and rear. The C4X design slopes off to the rear and features very little if any updates to the outgoing model. In contrast the C4 rear end gets a major redesign with new tail lights positioned below the spoiler creating a cleaner and more modern look. If you asked me which of the two I would pick, I would have usually went with the sloping coupe back of the C4X but on these revised variants, I’m siding with the styling of the C4 as the more striking option of the two. Moving inside the cabin, the changes are more subtle but equally impactful. The most noticeable update is the new oval Citroën logo on the steering wheel, complementing the brand’s exterior redesign. The interior adopts an all-black theme with gloss black and metallic accents, which is easy on the eye. Technology has also been upgraded with the new models getting a 7-inch fully digital TFT screen for the instrument cluster that supports navigation and provides drivers with all the essential information. Another key upgrade is the introduction of Citroën’s Advanced Comfort seats that now feature thicker foam padding for improved support and comfort. After spending some time behind the wheel in both cars, I can assure you, they are comfy! Powering the 2025 Citroën C4 and C4X is a choice between the mild-hybrid 1.2 petrol turbocharged engine delivering 100hp or 136hp as well as electric powertrain with entry level 50 kWh battery with up to 360km range or the 54-kWh battery with up to 427km range. These two options offer competitive offerings in Ireland’s growing EV market. Our test drive of both vehicles consisted of a mixture of rural and urban use with the petrol returning 4.7 litres per 100km and the electric using per 16.7kWh/km. Recharging quickly on long journeys is vital and the new ë-C4 and ë-C4 X meet this need with the option of using 100 kW rapid chargers, recovering 80% of its charge in less than 30 minutes. Both were super comfortable no doubt in part because of the suspension system, that incorporates the brand’s renowned Progressive Hydraulic Cushions. This advanced setup ensures a smoother ride by effectively absorbing road imperfections in a fraction of a second. Pricing for the 2025 Citroën C4 and C4X will be announced closer to their official Irish launch. However, with the updates and improvements across design, technology, and powertrains, these models are poised to remain competitively priced with entry below €30,000. This should continue their appeal as affordable yet stylish options in their competitive segments. In our opinion the new Citroën C4 and C4X showcase a well-executed mid-life update that enhances their appeal without straying too far from their original character.
- Rural Speed Limit Reduction Welcome
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has welcomed the introduction of a new default 60 km/h speed limit on many rural local roads, replacing the previous default 80 km/h limit. The change comes in response to the findings of the Speed Limit Review , led by the Department of Transport, in the context of Action 6 of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2021 - 2030. Public Support for Lower Speed Limits There is strong public support for lower speed limits on rural local roads. The RSA commissioned Ipsos B&A to conduct a nationally representative survey of over 1200 motorists in November 2024 and found that: 60% of motorists consider rural local roads to be unsafe. Over 60% of motorists support reducing speed limits on rural local roads. The most prominent reasons for support for the change was a perception that most users drive too fast for the conditions on rural local roads and that they often feature sharp bends. When shown a photograph of a rural local road, 70% of motorists thought the speed limit was 60km/h or less. The decision to reduce speed limits is based on clear scientific evidence showing that speed directly affects the likelihood and severity of collisions: Lower speeds give drivers more time to react to unexpected hazards, reducing the chance of a collision. A slower impact speed significantly reduces injury severity, as the force of a collision increases exponentially with speed. Pedestrian survival rates improve dramatically with lower speeds. At 80 km/h, 9 in 10 pedestrians will be killed if struck by a vehicle. At 60 km/h, this drops to 5 in 10 - a vital difference. Speaking on the speed limit reduction, Michael Rowland, Director of Research, Standards and Assurance with the Road Safety Authority said: “Managing speed is one of the most effective ways to reduce fatalities and serious injuries from road traffic collisions. Setting speed limits that are appropriate for the type of road and their use is a cornerstone of the Safe System approach. This is an internationally recognised, best practice approach to achieving ambitious reductions in road user fatalities and serious injuries. Today’s change will help make our rural communities safer for all road users—motorists, people who cycle, and pedestrians alike. We are also encouraged by the strong public support for this measure as indicated by our research. The majority of people recognise that rural local roads can be dangerous and are in favour of reducing speed limits to make them safer.” Rural Speed Sign The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has launched a public awareness campaign to highlight the updated meaning of the 'Rural Speed Sign.' This campaign will encompass audio and visual ads across video-on-demand, radio, and social media until the end of the month. The campaign http://rsa.ie/road-safety/campaigns/rural-speed-limit will educate road users on what the sign now means in the context of the change to speed limits for rural local roads. Key stakeholders, including the Department of Transport, Local Authorities and An Garda Síochána, will further amplify the message through their own social media channels. To further support the 'Slower Speeds, Safer Roads' initiative and the reduction of speed limits on rural local roads, the RSA will launch a new TV-led speeding campaign on March 1st. Running for a full month across television, video-on-demand, radio, digital audio, social media, and out of home platforms, the campaign will underscore the dangers of casual increases in speed—particularly on rural roads.

- New Fiat Grande Panda Ready To Roll
The Fiat Grande Panda debuts with electric and hybrid powertrains, taking on the B-segment where FIAT has been a leader for decades. As the first model of FIAT’s new global family, it embodies Italian design, compactness, inclusivity, and sustainability. Designed at the Centro Stile in Turin, the Grande Panda features clean lines, a structured appearance, and a wedge-shaped design, emphasizing strength and character. Built on Stellantis' "Smart Car Platform," it is flexible and versatile, catering to diverse global markets. Inspired by the 80s Panda, the Grande Panda maintains a compact size at 3.99 meters long, 1.57 meters high, and 1.76 meters wide, offering comfort for five people. The exterior showcases prominent wheel arches, 3D-branded "PANDA" lettering, and PXL LED lamps reminiscent of 80s video games. Seven vibrant colors—Limone Yellow, Luna Bronze, Acqua Azure, Lago Blue, Passione Red, Cinema Black, and Gelato White—align with FIAT’s "No Grey" initiative. Inside, the Grande Panda maximises space with smart storage, including a 13-litre compartment in the dashboard. The boot offers 361 litres of capacity in the electric version. Cheerful interior accents include yellow details on the infotainment area, dashboard, and stitching, complemented by the Blu Tasmania theme. A 10” digital cluster and 10.25” touchscreen, inspired by Lingotto’s track, enhance the driving experience. The electric Grande Panda features a 44 kWh battery and an 83 kW e-motor, providing 320 km of range (WLTP). It reaches a top speed of 132 km/h, with a 0-50 km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds. The hybrid version has a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo engine (100 HP) paired with a 48V Li-ion battery and a 6-speed electric dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid system enables e-launch, e-creeping, and e-parking, enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions (123g CO2 pre-homologation). Committed to sustainability, FIAT incorporates recycled materials into the Grande Panda, using 140 beverage cartons per vehicle. The La Prima version features "BAMBOX Bamboo Fiber Tex®," an eco-friendly textile made from bamboo fibers for dashboard wrapping. The Grande Panda offers two configurations: the top-tier La Prima and the socially driven (Grande Panda), which supports global health initiatives through FIAT’s partnership with (RED). The entry-level POP trim includes ADAS, a 10” cluster, manual air conditioning, and a smartphone station. The Icon trim adds a 10.25” infotainment system, LED headlights, and optional tech and style packs. The flagship La Prima stands out with 17” alloy wheels, high-quality fabrics, and premium features. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) ensure a safe drive, including Parking Assistance, Cruise Control, Speed Limiter, Active Safety Brake, and Lane Keeping Assist. The vehicle also features connected services such as SOS Help Call, Vehicle Finder, and Connected Navigation. Set to arrive in Ireland from April, the electric version launches first, followed by the hybrid. Full specifications and pricing will be announced closer to release.

- Record-Breaking Month For EV Sales
The Society of the Irish Motor Industry have released their official 251 new vehicle registration statistics for January, showcasing a promising start to the year for the motor industry. New car registrations for the month of January were up 7% (33,521) compared to January 2024 (31,407). Light Commercial vehicles (LCV) are down 16% (6,270) compared to January last year (7,478). While HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations are showing an increase of 8% (489) in comparison to January 2024 (454). Imported Used Cars saw a 5% (5,604) rise in January 2025, when compared to January 2024 (5,325). Electric Vehicle (EV) sales experienced a record-breaking month with the highest sales recorded to date, 4,925 registrations in January, representing 20% increase when compared to 4,093 in January 2024. In the new car market share by engine type, Petrol cars remain the leader (despite a decline in share) at 28.24%, followed by Hybrid (Petrol Electric) 24.89%, Diesel at 16.31%, Electric at 14.69% and Plug-in Electric Hybrid at 14.17%.Automatic transmissions account for 71.71% of market share, while manual transmissions continue to see a decline 28.28%. Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General commenting: “The new car market has started positively, with 33,521 new cars registered in January, an increase of 7% on the same month last year. For the commercial sector, registrations were mixed, with Light commercial vehicles (LCV) experiencing a decline of 16%, while Heavy Goods registrations (HGVs) saw an increase of 8% on last year. Most notably, battery technology cars (BEV, PHEV, HEV) all saw significant growth, with their combined market share exceeding over half (55%) of the market. In particular, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) sales surged in January, with 4,925 registrations, up 20% on the same period last year, the highest monthly total number of EVs sold, although their overall market share of 15% has yet to reach 2023 levels (19%). The underlying EV market continues to be dependent heavily on private sales which benefit from SEAI grant support, highlighting the importance of ongoing Government incentives to help stimulate the market. However, while there is cautious optimism over the trajectory of EV sales, one good month of sales does not necessarily define the whole year, and we still have a long way to go in the transition to electrification. The supply of EVs is there, with more newer EV models coming on stream across a range of price-points, so the focus must be clearly on supporting demand in what is still a relatively new market.” 10 Top Selling New Car Brands 2025 were: 1.
