DoneDeal Marketplace leads the way on protection, trust signals and verified sellers. With millions of daily users, no platform is immune to bad actors but we take trust seriously and we’ve built a safer way to buy and sell.
Every year, we invest over €1 million in Trust & Safety through dedicated customer success teams and ongoing product and technology improvements. Our goal is to ensure a safe, trusted experience for everyone using our platform.
We encourage buyers to check seller reviews, look for highly rated sellers, and use our in-platform message centre to avoid scams.
Remember you can help keep DoneDeal safe by contacting us about anything you feel is suspicious or using the Report Ad button, availble on every ad.
Some of the steps we are taking to keep you safe while using DoneDeal are:
Trust & Safety Team
Our in-house team dedicates time every day to search for and remove suspicious activity - not just waiting for reports. When we receive user reports, they are fast-tracked and prioritised, with our specialist team reviewing them quickly to remove harmful content.
Two-Factor Authentication
We have introduced phone-based two-factor authentication (2FA) which enhances security by requiring users to verify their identity via a code sent to their mobile phone. This adds an extra layer of protection beyond just a password, making it significantly harder for unauthorised access even if the password is compromised.
Ratings & Reviews
Ratings and reviews on the platform allow users to share their experiences with buyers or sellers, contributing to a more transparent and trustworthy marketplace. This system helps build reputations, make informed decisions, and fosters smoother, more confident interactions for everyone involved. Fraud Detection
AI-driven fraud detection flags suspicious behaviour and removes fraudulent users before most people even notice.
Automated account blocking based on fraud risk ensures high-risk behaviour is caught and stopped early.
Content moderation and message screening use both machine learning and real teams to review ads, descriptions and communications.
Alerts and phone number limits help secure accounts from unauthorised access or misuse.
Bank account and card details
We do not request your bank account or debit or credit card details in a phone call, text message, email or email newsletter/promotional email. We may direct you back to the Place Ad section. This is what a legitimate page looks like:

1. Shows what the correct address is and;
2. You can press the Save for later button to go back into your account.
DoneDeal Message Centre
When you place an ad, you can choose how buyers contact you, either through our Message Centre or by phone/text. If you choose Message Centre, all communication stays within DoneDeal’s secure messaging system, designed to protect your privacy and keep you safe.
We advise that you do not give out your email address at any stage e.g. via text message, phone or from within the DoneDeal Message Centre.
Some phishing scams start with a text messages asking you to email a person. If you have a smartphone, once you click the email address, your email account opens and without realising it, you end up emailing the person and are outside of the Message Centre system.
Scammers typically try to move conversations off DoneDeal to WhatsApp or text (often using 085 or 089 numbers) - to stay protected, keep all messages in the DoneDeal message centre.
We have made it more difficult for scammers to access phone numbers by making sure visitors to an ad on the website must click to view the phone number. Viewers of ads on app click to call the number.
