- Renault 4 E-Tech First Drive
Written by Justin Delaney, an Independent Reviewer, Journalist , and Motor expert. The Renault 4 is back, and it’s ready to make waves in the electric era. During a recent two-day test drive in sunny Portugal, we had the chance to get up close and personal with the new Renault 4 E-Tech electric ahead of its estimated arrival to Ireland, this coming September. Like the new Renault 5, the 4 is a modern take on the iconic classic that those of a certain vintage ‘like me’ will remember. The original sold over 8.1 million units worldwide between 1961 and 1992 from Europe to South America, Africa and it became a cultural icon, known for its practicality, durability, and global appeal. Now, the Renault 4 E-Tech is tapping into that legacy, aiming to bring electric mobility to the mainstream while targeting a broader audience, including young families. But how does it stack up in the real world? Over two days, we explored various test routes, assessing everything from how it drives to how much space it offers, and how stylish it looks on the road. At 4.1 metres long, it’s compact yet deceptively spacious. Despite being no giant, it’s 218mm longer than the new Renault 5, and that extra length transforms the rear seats from a tight squeeze to a genuinely usable space. Adults can sit comfortably, with noticeably more legroom than in competitors like the MINI Aceman or Jeep Avenger. The rear bench can even hold three passengers fairly comfortably on short trips, thanks to a soft centre seat. Headroom is pretty decent, and the flat floor is positioned slightly high relative to the seat base, which means under-thigh support is somewhat compromised. Still, for families seeking a compact EV with more room in the back than the Renault 5, the 4 makes a compelling case. Boot space is another strong point. At 420 litres, it’s impressive for a car of this size. Renault has paid homage to the original 4 by making the boot opening as low as possible, akin to an estate car. Beneath the main load area, there’s a 55-litre compartment for charging cables, and the false floor is split in two, making it easier to access even when the boot is packed. Opening the drivers door reveals an interior that features a modern design with various nods to the past. Twin horizontal OpenR screens take centre stage with a 10.1-inch display instrument panel, providing comprehensive information in the drivers eye-line. The central multimedia screen, measuring 10 inches integrates the OpenR Link system with Google built-in. The cabin offers extensive personalisation with hundreds of possible combinations to mix and match with the wheels, accessories, and chosen trim between Evolution, Techno and Iconic. From options like roof bars, a canvas sunroof, and a two-tone paint finish the versatility allows buyers of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric to be truly unique! Powering the Renault 4 E-Tech electric is a 52 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 110 kW motor, delivering 148 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.2 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 150 km/h. Range is a respectable 409 km (WLTP), and all versions come equipped with an 11 kW AC bidirectional charger. For longer journeys, a 100 kW DC fast charger is available, enabling quick top-ups on motorways. Should you not need this range a 40kW battery should also come to the market offering 308 km of range making it ideal for Ireland’s urban dwellers. On our test drive, it was clear to feel the Renault 4 E-Tech electric shares a lot with the Renault 5. Both are built on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, but the 4 gets that slightly longer wheelbase, 18-inch alloys and softer springs, allowing for a more comfortable ride and slightly raised height. The result is a pleasant mix of agility and comfort. It’s probably not quite as cushioned as the old R4, which floated over bumps, but it’s notably more compliant than the MINI Aceman, for example. Thanks to its relatively light 1,462kg kerbweight by EV standards, the Renault 4 felt nimble in corners. The steering is responsive, and while there’s a hint of body roll, it’s well controlled. The 4 also benefits from Renault’s one-pedal driving system, with four motor regeneration levels accessible via paddles on the steering wheel. The strongest mode brings the car to a smooth stop when you lift off the accelerator pedal, although it’s not as aggressive as some other systems we have tested. Overall, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric is more than just a nostalgic nod to the past. It’s a well-rounded electric vehicle that brings practicality, style, and an eco-friendly twist to the small family EV market. For those who found the Renault 5 a bit too tight in the rear, the 4 provides a spacious, versatile alternative without sacrificing driving enjoyment or electric range. Prices have yet to be finalised but entry is expected below €30k with competitive finance offers through Renault bank. After spending some time with it, we believe the 4 is a compelling addition to Renault’s growing all electric lineup and ready to carry the legacy into this electric age!

- Audi to Expand A6 Model Series
Audi is adding a new Saloon to its A6 model range, blending elegant design, impressive aerodynamics, and advanced comfort. This latest model is aimed squarely at business and premium car buyers, delivering innovation in both form and function. This new A6 Saloon sets a record with a drag coefficient of just 0.23—the most aerodynamic combustion-engine production model in Audi’s history. This contributes to better efficiency, quieter travel, and improved driving dynamics. The design stays true to Audi’s clean and sporty look. At the front, a wide Singleframe grille sits low between sharp headlights and large air intakes. These air curtains help guide airflow smoothly around the car, improving both aerodynamics and appearance. The long, slightly rising rear end adds to the car’s road presence, while the sleek tail lights and light strip give it a modern edge. Aerodynamics were a key focus in the design process. A sculpted tailgate and hollow groove shape create an ideal airflow stall point, while a wide diffuser at the rear balances lift and drag. This enhances both stability and handling. For comfort and control, the A6 Saloon offers optional adaptive air suspension. It automatically adjusts ride height and damping depending on driving mode. In normal mode, it lowers the car by 20mm; in dynamic mode, it drops another 10mm to improve stability and reduce drag at speed. All-wheel steering is also available, enhancing agility and precision. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, making tight manoeuvres easier. At higher speeds, all four wheels turn in the same direction for improved stability and smoother handling. Under the bonnet, the A6 Saloon features Audi’s latest mild-hybrid (MHEV plus) technology. Available with modern petrol and diesel engines, this system recovers energy while driving and assists the engine to boost performance and efficiency. It allows the car to coast or drive short distances on electric power alone in city traffic or during slow driving. It also provides extra torque and power when accelerating or overtaking. This mild-hybrid system can generate up to 230Nm of torque and 18kW of additional power. When slowing down, it can recover up to 25kW of energy. The result is a smoother, more efficient drive with lower CO₂ emissions. Inside, Audi has significantly improved sound insulation, making the cabin quieter and more relaxing. Better door seals, thicker windows, and tyres with built-in sound absorbers help reduce road and wind noise. Engine and transmission mounts have also been refined for a smoother ride. The new Audi A6 Saloon will be built in Neckarsulm, Germany, and sold worldwide. In Ireland, orders open on Thursday, 16th April. Prices start at €64,940 for the entry-level 150kW TFSI petrol version. First customer deliveries are expected in summer 2025. Commenting on the arrival of the new Audi A6 Saloon Audi Ireland Brand Director, Christian Gussen , “I look forward to seeing the new Audi A6 Saloon on Irish roads, this model is the pinnacle of luxury and personification of all things Audi. The mild hybrid technology really elevates the outstanding driving experience. I encourage any driver whom wishes to experience progressive and prestigious driving power to visit their local dealer in the coming months for a test drive.”
- Trading Into a Dealer vs Selling a Car Privately
What’s Best for You? When it’s time to part with your current car, you’ve got two main options: trade it in to a dealership or sell it privately on DoneDeal . Both routes come with pros and cons, and the right choice depends on your priorities speed, convenience, or maximising value. Let’s break it down a little further: Pros & Cons of Trading Into a Dealer Pros: Convenience : It’s quick and hassle-free. Hand over your car, agree on a value, and drive away in your next one. Less admin : No ads, calls, texts, or test drives with strangers. Immediate offset : The trade-in value is deducted directly from the cost of your new vehicle, reducing the amount you pay or finance. Safer : No need to meet unknown buyers or worry about payments going wrong. Cons: Lower price : Dealers typically offer less than you might get privately, to cover prep, warranty, and resale costs. Limited negotiation : The offer is based on trade value, not what you see cars listed for online. Pros & Cons of Selling Privately Pros: More money : You’ll likely get a higher price by cutting out the middleman. Full control : You set the price, vet buyers, and decide when to sell. Cons: Time-consuming : Photographing, advertising, responding to messages, and arranging viewings takes time and effort. Safety risks : Meeting strangers and accepting payment can carry risk if not handled carefully. Delayed replacement : If you're planning to buy a new car, you’ll need to sell your current one first on DoneDeal or run two cars temporarily. DoneDeal Choice Recommendation If convenience, safety, and speed matter most then trading in is probably the best option for you. If you have time and want the best price, then selling privately can be more rewarding. It is important to consider your personal circumstances, timeframe, and tolerance for hassle before deciding. We wish you happy browsing on DoneDeal for your next vehicle.

- Unwanted Calls
Put an end to unwanted calls and texts. Crank calls, prank calls, hoax calls, nuisance calls. Call it what you want, but you don’t have to put up with nuisance calls or texts. Unfortunately, many of us have unwanted phone calls or texts at one stage or other. These can be for many a reason. Here are some scenarios: strangers getting a kick out of unsettling other strangers toddlers pressing buttons on parents’ phones teens/children having what they think is a laugh school bullies radio show presenters making fun of people genuinely misdialled numbers silent 6am calls from people with a vendetta against you bored and lonely individuals texting numbers with strange questions The actual content of a nuisance phone call or text can vary from silence to the obscene as can how the caller even has your number. But when is it time to act? And what should you do? How to respond We asked An Garda Síochána for some advice. Their advice is not to engage with a phone caller that you do not feel comfortable talking to and to never give out personal details over the phone e.g. address, age, bank details etc. The same goes for a text message – you do not have to reply. The bottom line is do not engage with the nuisance caller, this will only encourage them to keep calling you and upsetting you.
